Owning a pair of leather shoes may give you confidence, but you need to take proper care of them too. Learn the steps to keep your shoes in perfect condition always.

Whenever you get ready for any important occasion, a pair of leather shoes is sure to be a part of your get-up. Be it an important meeting or a date with your in-laws, it is vital that you look your impressive best. But although leather is very good looking, it is very expensive too. You need to be very careful when you are buying from boutiques; after all, they cost the earth here. So when you own such a costly item, you should be careful that it does not get spoilt too soon. Durability should be maximized by taking proper care of the shoes.

Polishing the leather shoes daily is a good habit, but it is not enough to keep them in the best shape. You have to carry out a routine if you want to preserve your leather for a long time.

Keep your shoes clean

Use a piece of clean cloth to keep the dust off the shoes after each use. Rubbing with a cloth is enough to remove the dust particles. If not, you can use a brush to drive away the persistent dust. When the rainy season comes, you should be more careful with your shoes. The cleaning routine has to be more rigorous. Creams, gels, foams and sprays are useful while cleaning the dirt sticking to inconspicuous spaces in the shoes. The use of leather during rain should be totally avoided or at least minimized.

Condition your shoes

You can choose between petroleum jelly and the different shoe conditioners available in the market to condition your shoes at least once a week. Make circular motions with a clean and soft cloth on your shoes and see them shine. The type of conditioner will vary with the texture of the leather shoes. Remember to dry the shoes well after applying the conditioner so that the leather shines properly.

Polish shoes properly

Polishing the shoes is a very important step in taking care of leather shoes. Use a good quality shoe polish to give the effects. You should remember to polish your shoes on a regular basis to ensure its good looks. Always use a shoe polish which matches the color of your shoes. If you want a change in color then take your shoes to the repair shop. Don’t be hasty and apply a different shoe polish yourself to bring about a change in color.

Store in a dry place

There is a proper method for storing leather shoes. It is important to dry your shoes before keeping them in a stand or closet. Otherwise there will be a fear of fungus attacking your shoes. Keep them out in the sun and clean them properly before wrapping them in a cloth bag. You can sprinkle some talcum powder to keep it dry and smelling good.

How to clean fungus

There is no need to be petrified if you see your leather shoes affected by fungus. You can get it cleaned with the help of a toothbrush and soap solution. After cleaning it thoroughly, you can dry it under the sunlight for better protection.

Get your shoes in sparkling condition and earn the envious looks of many as you pass by.
